Vaginal Birth Recovery: For women who have had a vaginal birth, the body will undergo several key stages of healing. »Lochia« or postpartum bleeding begins immediately after delivery and lasts for up to six weeks. It starts as a heavy, bright red flow and gradually lightens in color and volume. - The perineum (area between the vagina and anus) may be swollen, sore, or even torn during delivery.
